Our First 5K

We ran our first 5K on Saturday. We woke up much earlier than we usually do. I thought we did pretty well for our first time. Pete finished in 27min 43sec and Kira finished in 29min 58sec. Kira placed 11th in the female 25-29 category and Pete finished 21st in the male 25-29 category. Pete was number 146 and Kira was number 204 out of over 600 people.

This picture was taken after the race so we are looking pretty sweaty.

We are now training for a Sprint Triathlon. The triathlon is on May 24th so we are biking, running and swimming most days of the week. We should be in pretty good shape by the time it comes around.

Alabama's wild flowers

While we were out talking pictures of the farm museum and Eutaw signs we took a picture of these pretty wild flowers. I always loved all the blue bonnets in the spring in Texas and was very happy to see that Alabama has some pretty wild flowers as well.

Eutaw (Utah), Alabama

So there is a city in Alabama which is pronounced the same as our home state of Utah but is spelled Eutaw. My first job in Tuscaloosa was at a Steel plant in the purchasing department. When I first started my job one of my coworkers asked where I was from and I said Utah and he said he was from Utah too. I was quite surprised by this because he had a very southern accent. Luckily he specified that Eutaw is a city in Alabama. So ever since then when people ask where we're from we say the state of Utah instead of just Utah... it makes things less confusing. (Not that it's that hard to figure out anyway since we are lacking the southern accent needed to be from Eutaw).
We drove through the city of Eutaw today on our way to give talks at a small branch in Demopolis and couldn't resist taking some pictures.

Only in the South

We had to travel an hour and a half to a small branch in Demopolis to speak in church today. On the way to the church we saw this farm museum and decided we had to take pictures on the way home.

There is a train made of hay in the background.

Kira and the tin man.
Monster car with wheels of hay and a very large antenna.

Hay Cookie Monster
This gives you an idea of just how large the tin man actually is.

Plane stuck in the treeI believe this is suppoosed to be a snake.

Our talks went really well but I thought these pictures were priceless and had to share them with everyone.

Yard Games at the Park

Saturday was a beautiful day! We went to Kentuck park with our friends Joane and JJ. We played a game of croquet, bocce ball, and frisbee. I won the game of croquet (but only because we played poison croquet..Pete actually finished first (For those of you who don't know what poison croquet is: Your ball becomes poison once you finish and then you eliminate other players by hitting their ball)) Joane & JJ won the game of bocce by one point. It was a fun day and we were able to get some sun (I am the whitest person around so heaven knows I needed it).
